Default Alternator Question for the experts?

My alternator went out last week on my 91 944 in which I removed it this weekend. In looking at it, it's a 115 amps #0.120.468.004.006 or #944.603.019.01. On Evilbay, there's a 944 Bosch listed at 130 amps. Will this work on my car?

Also, I have the Iceshark upgrade. Did his voltage regulator allow the voltage go up to around 14.5(?) volts vs. stock of 13.5(?)? If so, does anyone know where I can get another one at. I'm sure it'shttp://http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotor...spagenameZWDVW out as well.

Any recommendations on Alternators?

Many Thanks,
Lee

I have a good one with the same part numbers as yours from my 86 944 Turbo for $50 plus shipping.

Jeff,

I'm thinking about your offer but another $100 is worth it considering it was a lot more difficult to remove than planned. I really don't ever want to do it again. So, I going with a rebuilt one. The good news though is that everytime I attempt to do work. I usually have to go and buy another tool. I've got a good collection in the works.

Sincerely, Lee

Is the alternator itself bad, or is it just the voltage regulator?

Check the regulator first.

Problem is solved. I took the alternator to a local electrical shop today. They replaced all the brushes and bearings and left the regulator. It's back. They only charged $70. I'm glad they're some people in this world that don't charge an arm & leg when the word porsche comes up. I'm so relieved.

it would have been the right time to do the regulator.
