Question Quarter windows: 944 & 968 tooling the same?

Recently made the observation that on the 968(the beautiful specimen below) :

...the quarter windows are flush mounted! Now I know the 968 popped out of the 944, and parts are shared. I was wondering if the tooling for the window is the same as this beautiful 944's window:

This wouldn't really add much to the overall aerodynamic efficiency of the car(maybe with the upgraded mirrors& door handles?) ...but it is a nice touch to those who notice the details. And it's another project for those of us who like to keep it simple. Taking out the trim, I can do that. Unbolting stuff...easy. Besides, it seems to me that it shouldn't cost more than the mirror or door handle upgrade, right?

How are these little windows taken out anyway? I've messed around with a couple cars (at school, trying to get to the effin rear strut on a taurus...) I saw it was screwed/bolted in. Is that the way it is in the 944?

Yes, the 968 rear quarter windows are flush. They look a lot nicer.

Just my observation, but it looks to me like the 944's window has a steeper angle on the bottom...

Nice to hear from Ted! and Wolfe too!

I can cut glass..real easy...grind a line down it, then snap it over a straight edge. Then grind edge with sander, gently. But now that you mention it, they do look somewhat different, maybe the angle? (the other pic I have has a glare, the window isn't noticabley recesed as in the pic I posted). The 944 has a piece of black trim around the glass, making the surface area seem smaller, while the 968 piece is bare. Just an observation, if you take a look at the two pieces outside perimeter, they do look the same. To me, anyway!

The shape of the windows is different. The bottom edge on the 968 is more level with the bottom of the window in the door. On the 944/924 the bottom edge of the glass rises pretty sharply.

The window is a different shape, as is the body sheet metal around it. Not interchangable.

Default They are definitely not interchangable

One of the first things I noticed about the 968 coupe when it first came out (aside from the front and rear end changes) was that the rear window was completely different. Personally I prefer the older 924 and 944 design. The way the bottom edge of the window slants upward so that it points to the curve in the rear hatch just looks so much better. The 968 window points at nothing and breaks the natural flow of the fender line.

Just my $.02,

Rick
