Going to the extreme of racing tires, is it not true that 'fresh' rubber sticks better than aged rubber? I was under the impression that somewhat volatile compounds escape and cause the rubber to harden. Racers out there should be able to shed some light on this.

That tire appears usable from the picture you have, but not for long. It appears to have very litte tread left so it is nearing the end of its usable life (but not from cracking). Check in between the tread block for cracking and tearing, if in doubt replace it.

PS, is that a BFG?

that was my next guess, those are about the only two that use the treadblock on the 2nd rib you have posted. Any time, BTW, sadly I get paid to answer questions like that every day.

Then you got 5 years more than average out of them There are loads of good tires out there but I am not a GY fan.
