Auxiliary air valve AAV Early 944
I am trying to check or clean my AAV on my 84 944. I have been told this may be the reason I have no Idle at all..well unless 500 rpm is idle. I have an early 944 so is it located in the same place as the Idle Stabilizer is on late 944's under the intake?
Please help me find this thing so I can get back on the road.

I changed the auxillary air valve on my 83' about 6-7 years ago, and yes, it is located under the intake. Its really tricky trying to get the darn thing out. As I recall, I lost several layers of skin off my knuckles during the procedure. My problem was a rough idle on startup. Changing the Aux-AV out did remedy the problem. Sorry I cant be of more help, I sold my 83 about 5 yrs ago.

My 83 had the original Aux Air Valve on it when it was totaled.
You might want to check for a vacuum leak. Pay particular attention to the J boot. Mine tore and the idle went to hell.
