How Lucky!

I don't like the N/A's because of no boost, and that front bumper. But for free...HELL YEAH I'd take it.

Hope you get it running!

Good luck getting it going. I have brought a few dead 944's back to life.

ALSO: For God's sake do not try to pop start or jump start or unnaturally start one of these cars. Its not good. Find a good battery.

Why not? I've started mine numerous times that way.. pushing by myself. its no fun, but it works! Are you just saying as far as drivetrain lash?

Not sure why jump starting the car isn't safe.

Kevin,
No, I don't have the title. Don't know about volts across the terminals. I guess about *2*. Maybe I can borrow a DVOM form BOCES. ( I think they'd give me the five finger discount, right! ) I doubt very much the owner will have hard feelings, if anything I'd think they'd be proud.
I had a set of jumper cables, it was that dead. Pop starting it was plan B anyway. I'm with you on the "why jump starting it isn't safe." Can someone mention why? Next is a battery for sure. Possibly this sunday.

Mike,
I'll let you know if this doesn't work out.

Jon,
I might ask my boss if I can borrow his analog meter.

Devon,
That might have been a good idea. I'll make sure to bring some oil (say: oel!) this weekend.

Imo000,
Yeah, I thought it wouldn't, but I was more than willing to give it a try. I might have a friend bring a gas can.

more later...

I think your blanket statement of never jump start or push start a 944 is incorrect. Can you explain how the DME can be destroyed if either procedure is done correctly? I've jump started and push started both of my cars so many times I can't count...both of my DME's are working just fine. If you have an open cell, dead battery, or overheated starter you really don't have any other option.

I've become a freaking expert on heat-soaked starters Actually on that last run you missed I didn't have a single issue. Guess the Thermo-Tec wrap and homemade heat shield did the trick at least for now. I'm still going to buy the Thermo-Tec starter blanket just to be safe.

Keep trying 'kid'... you'll feel better when you can get a free car started and running, than paying 2500 for a wad of bondo.

Hey 944 kid,

I would just like to re-iterate what others have said. Do NOT settle for a $2500 for a muckwagon (bondo bucket). You should absolutely go for a car with a good condition body. The galvanized steel is one of this car's strong parts, as you know, and many of these cars are still very good in this regard.

But I think you're going to be able to get the other one started anyway. Just take your time and go step by step in the trouble shooting.

Ha! Effin computers! Oh well, I'll re-type this. I am not giving up yet. You'll all get updates on either Sunday night or Monday afternoon. I'll still be looking out for advice, so help out all you can!
