Default Refurbish Steering Wheel

I have some graying on my non airbag wheel, otherwise it is in good condition. What should I use to restore the black that will not rub off on my hands?

Thanks!

Is the leather still on it? Typically theres some type of adhesive underneath and once you peel the leather off you'll see it. You can buy a wheel 'refinishing' kit from pelican parts for ~$80. Might be worth it. Its definitely on my list.

You can always bid on this nice black one: Only up to $35 so far.

ebay one is not leather, and the one for sale is as good as mine (except I have sunfade/wear at 10 and 2).

Some joker at work told me to use black shoe polish, but I am a little leery of that. We used to use black polish on black toilet seats as a practical joke......

You can always try black leather dye. You can find it at any good shoe repair shop. I've touched up seats with it before with no issues. It shouldn't come off unless you really glomm it on too heavy or something.

Maybe a good conditioner like Lexol will do the trick.

If the leather is still intact, dont bother with a "new" steering wheel. Theyre just as old and will be in the same condition in no time.

I replaced my wheel on the 86 944 because there was no leather left and the rubber core was chunking away...

You can have the steering wheel re-done for $50 at a local shop (mine charges that much) or do it you'reself

I'll second the recovering kit option. There's nothing like a clean steering wheel with smooth leather.

Brad I have one in perfect shape I believe. It came out of my car a few years ago. I'll have to check but let me know if you're interested.

Thanks Jeremy- If I am on your end of town in the next few weeks I might drop by and take a look. The wheel is is not a priority right now, just planning down the road.

Thanks!

Brad
