Default Price Check for a 1989 - 1991 944 turbo or S2

I was recently asked, what's the best car you ever owned. My honest answer was the 1990 944 S2 that I drove for over 8 years. It was my daily driver and never caused me any problems. Loved the performance too.

I started thinking about selling my old Lexus and buying another late model 944 as a daily driver.

I currently have a '95 993 that's a garage queen and one that I love. But, to me 944s are a fantastic cars. Performance and looks.

How much should I expect to pay for a late model S2 or turbo. Let's say 50-80k miles, not perfect but a decent car with up to date maintenance. Great looking cars here by the way..

i would think 10k for a ballpark to land you with something pretty nice, up a bit when you start looking at more immaculate models

Good luck finding one with low mileage. Especially S2's. You can see what they sell for by watching e-bay. Its a good barometer.

low mileage S2 ~ $12-13k - 91 would be my choice out of the S2's because of the bridge spoiler similar to the 968, but I would not limit my search because there aren't many 91's out there..

low mileage 951 ~ $13-17 - remember, of the years you listed they only brought the turbo here in 89. You might be able to find a 90 or 91 if it was imported.

If you're looking at low mileage examples that have been well maintained you will pay a premium over some of the other junk that is out there.

I love seeing 993 owners still looking at good ol' 944s.

Porsche was actually thinking ahead when they made these cars, and once you've had one, they really grow on you. Have fun hunting!

Luis, you are so right.

thanks for your helps guys..

One question I forgot to ask
Is the maintenance on the Turbo significantly more. I remembered it being an issue when I bought my first S2.

Granted that mine has 180K miles on it, got it got $6,700, putting a goodly amount of work and parts into it (CVs next, suspension in spring), and I wouldn't let it go for under $8K (due to the miles) (or is this too high you think?). But then, I'm not even thinking about selling it.

In addition to checking into ebay, you could also check on autotrader.com and other car web sites.

Unless it is a Cab I think those prices are high. $8 to $9k should get you a very nice S2.

good luck, MAYBE in Cali You can find a nice car in the $8-9k range, but its not going to have low miles and been well maintained.

Ty, just did a quick search on autotrader and found a nice 89 951. Looks like a great deal to me if everything checks out ok and its all original.

Depending on condition (in and out) and where then seller has maint. history, this appears to be a good deal.

I would probably ask $11-12k for mine with 78k miles. Not much of a market where I live though.

If you find one with low miles, check carfax and repair records. When I was selling a high mileage S2 I got two calls from people wnating to know if it could be rolled back. Seriously. They asked me for the mileage on the title and were not interested when that was over 160K. If it had been 70K they probably would have bought the car, rolled it back to 75K and sold it as a garage queen. Carfax helps but only at change of ownership or if the mileage is recorded at regular inspections, some states do not do this.

not woith under 80k. Joe rothman just sold a blue one on this board. i had pictures of it. my brother was interested in it. it didnt go for 8-9k. i forgot the detais, but it was more then 8k for sure.

there was a very low mileage S2 on PCA. another poster snapped it up the first day (bastage beat me to it) for either 12 or 13k.

My 89 with 74k fetched a check for 15k from geico two years ago when it was stolen.

mine has 55k on it, and while i spent 8 months looking for one got a great deal on it, but after belts and some other "maintenance" it isnt worth letting go of for 11k with the bad amp and the few blemishes.

mine had 135K on mine when i bought it and I payed 8K for it. it has most of the maintence records from the last 15 years and all records from 8 years back. It had all belts done, clutch, brakes and the interior looks brand new. The paint is in really good shape(minus the standard rock chips on the front, which have now been fixed) and I think it could still get 8-9K for it today with 152K(Thats if I was going to sell it, in this market)
