944S2 "race" tunning..???
Hi Folks
Im on the hunt for some info on tunning a 944S2 engine.???
Stuff like gas flowing of the head + inlet manifold.?? Is it worth doing.?? + Skimming the head to raise compression to give more power.???
Would lightening + balancing the crank + rods be of any use.??
Are different cams available.???
What has been done to enhance the output of a S2.????
Anything other than just chipping + free flowing of the exhaust... As ive already done that.??
I use the car on UK track days,, + want more "go" out of the motor...
PS i DONT want to turbo the car....
Im after a "ultimate" NA S2....

if you are really interested in building the S2 motor you should look into
boring the block out to ~3.2 and getting custom pistons to raise the compression ratio to ~11.5:1
getting some custom cams ground
exhaust header
port/polish/valve job on the head
either extrude hone the intake manifold, or better yet get a short runner manifold
knife edge/cross drill/balance the crank
megaquirt engine management with MAP sensor and WBO2 for fuel/igintion tuning
keep in mind this is going to cost you out the a$$, but there's really no much else you can do to the n/a motors to raise their power significantly without completely building the engine
Also, remember that no one has really done this before, so while it would most likely end with a badass n/a motor, you'd be going out into uncharted waters and doing alot of R&D yourself

Well, Cam's and S valve springs are a good place to start and will net you the biggest HP gain. Then I would work on the headers (4-1) since the stock headers are pretty bad. Then I would polish the intake system and head (Do not port it). Also tuning will help alot with problems.

You might want to check out this thread (334hp 2.5L N/A?). It's quite long, and has a lot of comments/arguing that you can read through. Perhaps even some good ideas.

Considering that the S2 engine does make decent torque from like 3K RPM to the redline, would it make sense to raise the redline to like 7500 RPM with a little smoothing of intake and exhaust to easier breathing, it would seem to make sense.
Now I'm just wondering how hard it would be to raise the redline to that level. Sure you'd have to blue print and balance the engine components, and probably lighten the flywheel, but what else?

Moook it might be worth trying these three companies.
EMC Motorsport, these people build the engines for the PCGB 944 race series, they may be able to help you with yours. I don't currently have any contact details apart from the fact that they are based some were in Birmingham.
Ninemeister, site here: http://www.porschetuning.co.uk/html/index.php
Promax, http://www.promax.uku.co.uk/main.htm
Hope this of some help.

Promax ,, ive got one of there chips in the car + a free flow "janspeed" exhaust ,, both from them.. In fact ive been in touch with Andrew about further " upgrades"...
Ive also JUST fitted a MAF kit that they have only just started doing.. That does make a real "smooth" difference to the drivablity...+ torque spread....
BUT as ever i want MORE....
Thanks so far for the replys... Keep em coming...
