Default mileage worry

They are selling a 1987 944S (american ´version) with 174000 miles.
I think this engine must be due to rebuild in not many more miles. Is this true?
How many more miles can I expect from this car before major rebuild?
thanks for your answer....

Well that all depends on how well the car/engine was taken care off previously. 174,000 is nothing for a properly care for 944 engine. However if it was negleted and driven harshly then it may be due for a rebuild. Best is to check oil pressure when warm/hot and do a compression/leak down test.

Check on the chain and chain tensioner, of course.

My '87 944S has 153,000 and just normal maintenance and belts. Runs great still.

Thanks again for your answers, I e-mailed this car owner requesting data on maintenace records.
I am very wary of buying a car with "issues" unsolved because in this part of the world maintenace can get very expensive so owners tend to avoid or pospone some jobs (or they sell the car instead of doing them )
