Default Early 944 crest install?

How do you remove and install a new Porsche crest on these early cars where the header panel is not removable? Any suggestions or pointers are of help thank you.

It is just a push in most likely. I own an 83 and my nose isn't removable either. I believe they are all this way and when I was painting my car I just pulled it out by getting my finger nails under its edge.

The crest is fastened the same way on all the cars - there are little fasteners on the back that hold it on. The only way to properly remove and install a crest is to cut the spot welds on the nose panel, replace the crest, then weld the nose panel back on. I suggest that if you cut the spot welds (a bunch on top by the hood line, and a few on bottom) that you screw it back on instead of welding it back on, so you can remove it again in the future. Do a search for "early nose panel" and look for this kind of info.

You can try to pluck the crest out from above, but chances are you wont be able to put it back in very securely.

I've got a later car, but I had good luck with the pry it off method. If you use a larger wide flat head screw driver you should be able to get leverage against the gasket below it and gently pry it off. When I did mine I was lucky enough to not have the rivets on the backside fall away and it seems to be very securely held. That said I also had to do bend the posts on the crest to fit properly.

Mine pulled off using no tools. Pull out, pop in.

Later, I replaced the welded-in panel with a nice screw-in one. Talk about a pain...
