Default New Winter Project: refinish wheels...opinions please!

Hey guys,

I just picked up this set of Cookie Cutters for the winter from my mechanic, for only $60! They are actually in great shape, they only have slight curb rash, but more importantly, the clearcoat on the chrome part is yellowed and cracked and peeling.

Now before I throw on some winter tires, I want to refinish/repaint the wheels. I had Cookies on my '83 car, and I thought they looked great once you polish up the lip.

I want to repaint these wheels a really different colour, something that would look nice on a black car. I'm thinking maybe white, or graphite metallic. Or just polish up the lip and leave the centre black, or have a different colour centre.

Anyone have any pics of different coloured Cookie Cutters on 944's, or any other suggestions? Your opinions are greatly valued!!!

PS. The wheels are pretty dirty in the pic, my mechanic ran them through the parts washer to get the grime off so they have a white film on them...

I say keep a dark color center area and polish the lip. Go to wheel enhancement to see a stock black with polished lip.

Take a straight shot and go photoshop crazy and see what you come up with

I can't think of any other color that would work on a black car than black.

when i had my black 83 with cookie cutters i repainted them silver and thought they looked way better than the black.......but thats just my opinion.

because those wheels are only 15 inch they look even smaller when painted black......either way...best of luck with them.

There's a guy on the 924board with silver cookie cutters on his silver 924. They look pretty sharp. I could see silver with black centers on a black car. Remember there's got to be rubber around that wheel too.

I could go all day. You have many surfaces to paint with many angles.
White lip, polished lip, painted lip.
Then you have the edges of the cookie cutters, then the flat base then the inside lip of the cookie cutter....so many possibilities!!

I think you should just leave them stock with a well polished rim. I still love the old school look and think it fits perfect with the era. I swear if they made in 17" and wider I would put them on the 951. Here's Ol' Pokey the day I bought it 3 years ago before a thorough cleaning. CC's look great on white or black cars.

Gloss or satin black with polished lip. No question.
