All was going well...Then this little bitty bolt broke in half... now what?
It's the clutch release lever retaining bolt. Snapped the head off, there's about 1/4 inch of bolt still sticking out of the bell housing. Tried Vice Grips but not enought there to grab. So....
I take it this bolt has to come out before I can pull the release lever pivot shaft and subsequently the bell housing.
What now? Drill out the bolt from the bottom next to the pilot shaft? HELP.
I would drill it out, and retap the hole for a larger bolt. Might help to cut off the remnants of the bolt with an angle grinder or asimial tool. I wouldn't use a bolt extractor because they always breake (at least that's my expereince.
On the other hand it's not as easy as I wrote it: you need to make sure you don't drill too deep.
You might be able to put a grove in the top of the bolt with a dremel and unscrew it with a flathead screwdriver. Sometimes this works, but sometimes it doesn't. Other than that, I guess the only other option would be to drill it out.
