Default Porsche CD 2 radio - opinions

I'm interested in the opinions of you'all on the CD 2 Radio that was OE on cars in the early '90's. I have "very old" ears, so fidelity isn't high on the list of needs. However, good AM/FM reception, reliability, and ability to play one CD are important, as well as the OE look of the radio. I'm interested in retrofitting it to an '88 928 S4. Look forward to hearing your opinions, and hearing from anyone who has a good one they'd like to sell.

Why bother? you can buy way better and reliable systems that look "original" nowadays. They weren't much good then and now they are old, not supported by Alpine I don't see the point.

I have a blaupunkt florida in my 944. I don't think it was ever OE for a Porsche, but it looks like it would fit right in with the 928 or late 944 interior. It's really easy to use, never loses reception unless I'm in the middle of nowhere, plays every CD I've tried, and it even receives the song data from the radio stations! I got mine used for $20.

Many of the Blaupunkt CD players will look good with the interior.

I agree. Some of the blaupunkt head units match the interiors very well. I used to have one in the 944S, but make sure you get one with a warranty as I had some trouble with some of the solder joints inside the unit. With a blaupunkt, you can also purchase the wiring harness adapter to plug your stock wires directly into the newer unit without the need to cut/re-wire. These are actually available for pretty much any new cd-player and crutchfield is pretty good about having them in stock.

I have the OEM Porsche tape deck with the 6 disc cd changer in the hatch. It was an option with the 10 speaker hi-fi system. I really like it and it is more than I need for a stereo.

The Bermuda looks good and plays MP3s while having an AUX for satellite radio input.

It looks good, now all you need is a new wheelskin shift boot and moving the wires around behind the cubbyhole so your storage cubby pushes all the way in . Nice looking stereo. Did you wire in the fader switch on the console or leave it out? I always thought that was a weird switch to have as an option since rarely can anyone fit in the back seat who is annoyed more by the speakers than by the lack of room!

Thanks guys, your experience has been most helpful. I've had two Blaupunkt Torontos in other Porsches and MBs for about 6 years and have found them to be quite good for all my needs. May try to find another one of these (older face plate design, which I think matches the interior better than new ones). THANKS again.

Another of the older units which matches the interior nicely and even has the same color text as the orange/yellow dash lights is the Blaupunkt Honolulu (I'm pretty sure that's what I had). It also came with a wireless steering-wheel remote. I bought it for ~160.00 from ebay about 4 years ago I believe.

I have an older model...Denver I believe. I always thought it looked even more stock than what actually came in the car.
