I know this has been done before, but I really want to do this and I'm in the mood to babble... I've had several beers...
I love the '73 Carrera RS. That's probably my favorite car. And I'm really itching to build up a 944 to a similar theme. I can't do it until my career change is done (which will be next Fall) but my tentative plan is to get an early 944 (although I'm not opposed to a later one, but the earlier ones are generally lighter) and build it up to 944-spec standards just so that it could be quickly converted over to that duty if needed. I want to strip it of unecessary weight, but keep it civil inside. I still want carpeting and all, and will build lightweight replacements for the door panels, rear seat and so on. I'll also throw on a couple lightweight body panels just to shed off a few extra pounds.
Is this a worthwhile project? Who cares??? I want to get back into autocrossing and DE events (I'm not overly concerned about classes, but that will likely change, hence the reason to build it to a class specification) and want something that I won't feel bad about flinging around and, ultimately, banging up if it happens. For me, it's also the project, just to build such a car.
My old Scirocco was well on that way. It was pretty raw and rough, but didn't have that bare, stripped look when you saw it. I want to do the same thing with a 944. Of course, I'd also love to do this with an old 911 as well...
Sorry for the babbling.![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I picked up about the closest thing to a 924CS as you'll find out of the box. It's an 88 924S SE, manual windows, one manual mirror, non sunroof, the lighter manual cloth seats and 7" phones, M030 with Bilsteins and bigger sways. Still has PS and AC tho.
I'm in love with the 74 911 RSR, more specificly, the Jagermeister car. That thing is friggin sweet!
Now the Project 949 will be minimal weight with alot of go fast stuff. Should be a real runner.

Why not autocross the miata? It will be faster and modding it is more cost-effective AND cheaper.
Talk to Tifo - hes rennlist's "944 RS guru." His car is VERY nice and still (fairly) comfortably streetable.

For the short-run, I'd autocross the Miata. But I just want a dedicated competition car so that I don't have to worry about things like "comfort". ![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
