Question CONTROL ARMS - New or Rebuilt?

I need control arms for my '87 944S. Is there a consensus as to new vs. rebuilt? Vertex has rebuilt units for half the price of new ones. Anyone with experience on the rebuilt units? My car is a daily driver never raced or autocrossed.

Go to www.rennbay.com or www.klaindustries.net and purchase the rebuild kits and rebuild the ones you have, unless the arms are damaged it is cheaper and you know what you have when it is all finished. The ones from Vertex have a half-assed pressed-in joint kit that can never be replaced in the future (they hone out the inside of the arm and press the BJ kit into it). New arms are ridiculously expensive. Your best option is to do it yourself. Richmond VA or Richmond IN?

Agreed... Do Not buy rebuilts from Vertex. They've Always been very helpful to me on other things, but thier rebuilt control arms are troubling. The control arms I got may not have been completely rebuilt and I'm experiencing some abnormalities now some 2 1/2 - 3 years later. I can recommend Vertex for parts, however!

or for a similar price as new factory arms, get the nice racing units from charley arms or racers edge.

I feel I could do the rebuild myself, however I can't keep the car out of service long enough and I am a Backyard (gravel driveway actually) mechanic. Thanks for the replies on the rebuilt units from Vertex. I too have had no problems on other parts from them. May just have to bite the bullet and get new ones to save on time and agrivation of doing it myself. I am from Richmond, Va. My original owned 944S has 233,000 miles on it so I guess I got all of the "good" out of those old ball joints.

Another option is to find a used pair of Al control arms on ebay (Ive seen sets go for $75 numerous times) and rebuild those. Then you can swap without worrying about it. Afterall, a rebuild can be a huge pain if you lack the proper tools.

No rebuild yet on the engine. I guess that's next. I did have the head rebuilt a few years back cause I waited too long on a belt replacement OUCH! Just got the tranny rebuilt a year ago. Needs paint as it has been outside 18 years so I'll get to that one day. I want to keep it running as long as I can...I love this Car
