Default body work advice

I'm learning how to do body work and wondered if anyone could give me some advice on how to finish up this job without too much filler being used. The problem area is the lip around the wheel well and the curve under the turn signal.

I'm pretty good with the hammer and dolly and would like to know what other tools I should get to finish this panel off.

(not too bad for my first time IMO)

The panel was really dented before I started and now its very close to the other side. I'd say 90% correct.

Some tools Ive thought of gettng are a long spoon, a profile matcher to match it with the other side, a hook puller to pull the edge of the fender lip out.

Whats the best filler to use? bondo or plastic?

Any advice is appreciated.

Do you have any "before" pics? At any rate, it looks pretty good!

I have only limited experience with hammer and dolly work (taking out a few small dings before painting my car), but I have frequently been visting two paint and body forums during my paint project and there are some pretty experienced folk there who may be able to give you good recommendations.

Good Luck!

While it's probably a mortal sin to use filler on a p-car ( guess I'll burn in hell)....Duro Easy-glass has always worked well for me. It's a resin based filler with strands of fiber mixed in. I did this on a volvo...drilled several small holes so the glass had a place to bite then filled. After I got the shape roughly where I wanted it ( made a template from cardboard using the other side of the car) then I used bondo to do the 'fine' work. That was in 1984 and the car is still occasionally seen driving around the westchester ny area....no rust and the same paint job!

I have to search for the before pictures. But the whole thing was bashed in and I bought a stud gun and a dolly and hammer kit from pep boys and went to work.

The problem Im having is how to make that flat part just right on the lip of the fender.... I'm sure you can see the problem

evercoat is the best. and it will outlast your car. it can be built up to an 1/8" if needed. filler may be "bad" and lead is an alternative... but thats a pain. the fillers of today are really good stuff. i used it on my drivers side quarter right in front of the wheel after i had to cut out the corner and weld in a new piece of galvanized. after i ground it down smooth as possible. filler is the only thing left you can do, besides replaceing the whole panel. the best of the best use filler (chip foose, boyd conningtion)

Make sure you acid etch that car before you paint and use some metal conditioner too or else that thing is gonna rust like no tomorrow.
