OEM gears are white plastic/nylon, so that if they bind, they strip the plastic gear teeth and NOT damage the wire cable drive as that is a real PITA to repair. A few aftermarket suppliers stock the metal gears, but if your sunroof clutch is set correctly, the plastic gears work just fine-a-roony.

Snot tape is 3M Adhesive Transfer Tape #924

VW uses the stuff to attach the plastic vapor barrier to the inside of the metal door frame before the door panels goes on. Waterproof and sticks like snot. Think of it as industrial rubber cement on a roll. Find at your local art supply store.

Good luck.

I didn't do anything but look in there and we had to take it all apart, but the gears were fine since they were metal. It was a while ago so I don't really remember, however.

So... What kind of grease/lube stuff do you put on the plastic gears?
TIA

Inspection of the lifting arms shows that the grease has baked into the housing and dried up possibly causing the arm to stay "glued" in place just long enough to strip a few teeth. Thinking of replacing the arms as one of them is fairly worn on the bottom.

After 3 tries of adjusting the arms by counting teeth, found that setting the motor to arms retracted fully position and then placing the arms in flush worked fairly well.

I think I read somewhere that any heavy duty grease will work. I ended up using dielectric silicone grease (the kind you use in electrical connections) since its all I had around at the time.
