Default OFF TOPIC BUT IMPORTANT!!

I have just learned that a good friend of mine who I work with has just lost 2 sons in an accident last evening near here. They were 19 and 16....a third son (15) is in critical condition in a Pittsburgh hospital. We don't know how the accident happened ,but having sons of my own, I cannot begin to imagine the pain this family is going through. I know this is off topic but I just need to release some of my own thoughts on this tragedy. Please keep your children reminded on a regular basis how much you love them and remind them to drive sensibly.....thanks for listening...

My heart goes out to the parents and friends of these boys. I also have two sons 21 and 18...every night away in a car is a source of worry. And yes we do remind them we love them and how not to make an automobile an extension of their current state of emotions. I'm pulling for the the 3rd son to come through this OK.

That is a gut full. It's always absolute amazing how quickly a life can be taken and the blood, sweat, and tears that goes with that soul. I sincerely hope all goes well.

Lost my 13 yo cousin brianna earlier this year when a drunk hit their shuttle bus goign to the airport in dallas (was an overnight layover), at 6 in teh morning.. needless to say our extended family hasn't been the same , many somber get togethers this year. I can't imagine 2 fromt eh same family, although it couldve been as bad or worse, because two whole families (both families were related/together) in teh shuttle .

Hope the 3rd makes it. send best wishes..

9eagles;

I just saw this on the news...

The boys crossed the center line and hit a women and her 5 yo child (they are fine). WPXI claimed speed was a factor.

Sad, so young. My heart goes out to you and their families.

My kids all get advanced driver training before they get onto the roads by themselves. Stories like the above are all too common. The standard of competence required to get a licence is murderously low. Generally speaking, 16yo and 19yo kids have little sense of their own limits, or mortality (their's or anyone else's).

Sometimes the best lesson can be a "near thing" that makes them realise that the dangers are real, and that the laws of physics apply to them as well as to everything else. Sounds like it didn't happen in this case, unfortunately. Too much is left to dumb luck to decide whether a kid gets to see his 21st birthday.

That is very sad. I certainly hope the youngest recovers quickly.

After things quiet down (and it will get too quiet for them rather fast) you might mention a local chapter of Compassionate Friends. It is a group of people who have lost children. They are the only ones who really know what your friends have been through. It helped us a lot those first few years after we lost our son and we made some good friends threre too.
