i am thinking of purchasing this car from a local but i have a few questions. i did some research on some very basic specs of the car. the only thing i came up with is the n/a version pushing out 143hp and some other version pushing out 240hp. i never got it clarified on what the s2 makes. i know this car wasnt made for the dragracer in mind but that doesnt concern me b/c i am all about the cars handeling, grip and overall performance on a turn. i am coming from owning a 2000 honda prelude and was looking into a 93-95 twin turbo rx7 then stumbled upon this car. ive asked a few ppl and they said its a downgrade from the car i own and planned on getting (rx7). for some reason i still have hope for this car and i was just wondering on your thoughts about this car still hanging in with todays cars. basically, i am in search of an unexpected car that has potential. personally i would love to own a datsun 240z but its been hard sourcing one near chicago.

208 hp. I'm going to guess that it would be a hell of a lot more reliable than the RX7.

The rx7 would probably be a fun car and maybe even a little more fun the s2 but its newer which makes it very much more refined...i think thats the word i'm looking for. I have to say though, if you want a "sports car" the S2 is probably one of the best ive driven. Mine gives me excellent response everywhere. It really makes you feel like your driving the car instead of it driving you.

Its a 3.0L 16v DOHC inline 4. Makes about 208-211bhp depending on where you read it from. 0-60 times vary from 6.5-6.8 seconds. By no means a drag racer. Excellent autocross cars. These cars handle very well in stock form and have excellent brakes.

If you want something that handles equally well and that can make some serious power when modded, look into a 944 Turbo.

If I didn't have the 951, I would have a 93-95 RX-7.

If I ever wanted a fun but reliable daily driver or cone killer, the S2 would fit the bill pretty well. . .

stock for stock the Rx-7 will run circles around an S2. More power, lighter weight, and a more modern design overall. Picking between the two I'd go with the mazda. It will "hang" with modern cars better, but it still an old car. 255hp is nothing now.

Both will get you in the end as far as cost of ownership. The RX-7 because they can be unreliable if one is unsmart with mods, the Porsche because it is a Porsche.

I owned six RX-7s and am on my second 944S2. I respectfully disagree, and have the receipts to prove it.

Like I said, it's a guess. I have no experience with the RX7's, but research into the 3rd gen Turbo cars showed a blown engine on anything with 80k miles on it. I love the looks, but that scared me away from the Mazdas.

Now, let's see how long before I spin the #2 on my 951. Karma should get me in another week or so.

Tom how many of those 6 where turbo's and how many miles where on them? The Rx7 is no where near as reliable as the S2.

rx-7's are reliable. its mostly the owners and mechanics that tend to be unreliable in maintaining the car. i am not saying the rx7 is as reliable as a good ol' honda but with intelligent modding and driving habits the car will hold its own. all though when in the market for an rx7 a rebuild is usually kept in mind when purchasing. i am actually just trying to find one with a blown motor to have it rebuilt and converted into a single turbo but i am having no such luck. i dont expect the 944 too be walking on newer model cars but at the sametime i dont want anything that is terribly underpowered. (my 1st car was a 92 accord with no a/c and all my friends had newer cars. i hated being the slow one in the group.) yeah, i can see that both cars will be money sinkers which is why i am trying to get feedback from you guys with more experience. off the bat the 944 has looks that appeal to me and something about that interior has me liking the car even more. honestly, so far with my research of the 944 i havnt found so much aftermarket support for it. as for mazda theres so much support for it. i also read the swaps arent even worth doing for porsches since it is a major pain in the ***. if only 944's were like honda civics in the sense of swapping engines is so easy id be all over a 928 swap. any more opinons and suggestions about both cars?? good info so far!

the 3 cars i have in mind right now as a next project are, 944 turbo s2, honda s2k, 93-95 rx7. i am not really opt for a s2k mainly b/c it seems boring.

The largest amount of aftermarket support is for the 944 Turbo in terms of power modifications.
