Default Stock Tire Size

Was there a late offset wheel that came with a stock tire size of 205/60-15? I am buying a set of rims and I am afraid that they are 6" rims. The owner said they are 8" rims with a 205/60-15 tire. Additionally, I don't think that these rims came in an 8" size. They are phone dials.

924S came with late offset 6" phone dails.
The stock tire size was 195/65 R15.

Stock size on most 944s was 215/60 R15. This was using 15x7" wheel. 15x8" were options and 16" wheels may have been another option over the years. The stock 16" size was 205/55 R16 and 225/50 R16 on 7's and 8's.

I am not sure any phone dials came in 8" for 15" diameter. 16x8 are common.

for 15" phones came in 6" and 7".

I do know fuchs came in 15x8"

The guy says he had then on an 87 944S (same as my car) but he says 8" wheels. I don't mind 7" but I definatley don't want 6". IS this marked on the rim anywhere?

I think the Fuchs 18x8 are the early offset...I could be wrong though.

Fuchs only came in early offset. (no 18" sizes either )

The wheels should be marked on the inside as to 6" or 7" wide.

You may want to ask the 928 guys if there was a 928 15x8 phone dial.

I know the 928 ran them, but not sure they ever used 15" wheel.

If there is 15x8 phone dial it may be a 928 wheel.

I think (not 100%) there's a 205 60-15 size listed on the tire pressure sticker inside the fuel door on my '84. They didn't make phone dials back then though.

The size should be marked on the rim - look for something like 15J6, most likely on the inside.

I'd agree with your suspicions that the wheels are not 8". A quick check at tirerack.com shows that 205's can go on a 5.5" - 7.5" wheel. The guy may be basing the width on a measurement of the tire which will be around 8" (205 mm /25.4)
