Smile Progress?

Well, I've been getting more done on my car in the last month than I did since I put the cage in, thanks especially to the help of a few Greaseslingers. My car has been "under construction for some time, although I must say most of the progress has been (and still is)destruction.

Toward that end, the gearbox and engine are out. The engine is now on the stand and about half the wiring harness has been pulled. Still have a ways to go before painting, but I'm getting there.

So, here are a few photos for no good reason.

Here's a "nice" picture of a disintigrated rubber clutch center....

Followed by a photo of the little "limp home" tabs on the clutch. I don't know if pix have even been posted here, but I've never seen them.

Note the wear on the tabs....

Engine on the stand. Pretty greasy and ugly. That will change.

This side is even greasier and uglier. Or was. Berryman's carb cleaner is amazing stuff. Once I get it cleaned up some I'll post more pix.

Everything touching the belts will absolutely need to be replaced. It's pretty ugly.

Oh, and I found the balance shafts are not timed right.

Lastly, does anybody know what this little vacuum controled valve is, and just as importantly, is it expensive. I broke the hose nipple trying to save an AC line. Probably saved a $5 line while breaking a $100 part.

the nozzle that is sticking up is connected to the Fuel Purge Valve via a hose. The other one that broke, has a vac line running to the bottom of the throttle body....

Yeah, I get to start rebuilding this winter, I can't wait. I broke that valve exactly like you did. IIRC, it was pretty expensive. We tried gluing it but that didn't work out. As it turned out the new head I got though had one on it, so we just left it in.

George,
I'm pretty sure I have a spare valve in the garage. I'll look tomorrow when I get home and let you know. It's yours if you want it.

I also broke the nipples on that valve and I just bypassed it and went directly to the throttle body. I haven't had any issues with it 5k miles later. . .
