![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
My door chime wont stop dinging. I've searched the forums, clarks garage, and the 944 faq...and I cant seem to find out how to disable the door chime. Is there a fuse I have to pull? Even if someone can help me find the chime speaker in an early car I'll just kill the thing. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Thanks!

One of the mysteries of my car also, the door gong goes off no matter if the key is in the ignition or not. Im guessing due to a aftermarket alarm that was once installed on this car.
Check to make sure your turn signals are off and parking lights off.
Otherwise you can just pull the relay which makes the sound...it should be under the dash on the fuse block for the early cars. Its under the steering wheel area. I dont remember which relay it is, but its a fairly long one with a perferated top for the speaker. Check the owners manual for the exact one.
This is only a temporary fix, you should figure out what is causing it. Im a hypocrite and have not bothered to do so yet...

One thing that will cause the chime to ring when the door is open and the key is NOT in the ignition is when the key hole cover in the ignition switch sticks in the "key inserted position". My '87 does this. To "fix" the problem I reinsert the key and give the key a "flick" as I remove it.

Take the top off of the relay/fuse box. There should be a listing of the relays and a location drigram. If the placard is not there look for a realy with holes in the top, simiar to the holes in a speaker grill.

elzergone, thats the way it is for the later model cars. Im not sure where the gong sound comes from on the early model cars then. I would check the relay and fuse block for the relay with the perferated top still.
