Autozone and other shops collect oil and maybe coolant. Try there.

My city's public works department collects oil, so maybe call and ask if your city does... I'm still looking for a place that will collect coolant.

Finde someone in Prince William County, they have a dump down 123 that takes EVERYTHING! All you need is a drivers license and have things seperated correctly.

Good Luck!

I have *heard* that it's OK to dispose of coolant through the sewer system. NOT stormwater, but through the sewage system - that was it goes through the treatment plants.

Some auto shops have oil burning heaters....might try them.
Or any auto shop/oil change facility has to dispose of the same stuff...surely they can help.

Most of the Auto Zones here don't dispose of anti-freeze. Talk to an auto parts store or maybe look online at your city's website to see if they recommend any disposal stations.

I just had my garage roof re-done, and the roofer said throw anything I want into the dumpster (oil, coolant, even paint). Waste shingles go somewhere special that will take anything. I took him up on that, but I am not 100% sure I believe him.

true, i guess i could do that, and it probably wouldnt do much more damage than the mounds of waste out there seeping into the water table, but im avoiding it. Ive held on the the oil im tring to get rid of for the past 2+ years now, so im willing to go the extra mile to get rid of it properly. thanks for all suggestions

I would try your cities public works dep as suggested earlier. Try your local landfill also. Where I live they accept all types of automotive fluids.

I always wait too long to get rid of oil. Normally I end up driving around half a day with a trunk full of oil hitting multiple places to get rid of it. The last time was fun, lol. I go to Autozone, they took 2gallons, from there I went to Valvoline, they took 5 gallons. From there I was off to Jiffy Lube, I pulled up to the end bay with the door closed, the guy came out and asked me to pull to the other door. I explained that I only needed to drop off some oil, he replied just throw it by the door and I'll get it. At this point he walked back to the car he was working on. I popped the hatch and promptly blessed them with 15 and a half gallons of used oil and was on my way before he even looked again. That was oil for one year that I lived in my house, actually a little less. Things stay buisy here. I don't feel bad about the Jiffy lube thing tho. For one I used to work there, for two, they get PAID 10 cents a gallon from a contract with a recycling company that hauls it off for them. I'm not exactly sure if they will take straight coolant(maybe mix it with oil) but I know they don't get paid for the coolant but dump it to the same waste tank. They should take tranny fluid and power steering fluid as well tho. I'd just mix it up and hand it to them. They normally hire people straight out of jail or rehab, chances of someone there actually caring what you dump is slim. Good luck

Some cars take care of the problem from you..they just burn oil about as quick as you change it Liters per mile takes on a new meaning.

I'm lucky we have curbside oil pick-up every 2 weeks. They even provide the plastic jugs. If I put 3 gallons of oil out they leave 3 empty jugs. Anti-freeze is taken by any of the auto dealerships in the county as part of the program.
