Default which CV joints are the best

Hi, my cv's need replacing on my 944 N.A..
Before I purchase 4x CV's I would like to know if anyone has any feedback on the cheaper brands of CV's that seem to be floating around.

I was told that there is a cheap brand called "GKN automotive " which are made in Asia, but I’m sceptical about the quality of these CV’s.
Has anyone had any experience with these cheaper cv's ?????

I know LOBRO are the best (but also the most expensive)
Are there any other brands of C.V's that someone can recommend .

Thanks
Robert

your local autoparts store will sell you 2 fully loaded axels for the rear of the 944. apparently the VW CV axel is a direct fit, so the parts cross reference. i got both full axels packed with grease for a total of $132.00.

Hi "CT944" - thanks for the info

that is very cheap , at $66 for 2 CV's + Axle . Was this a genuine VW axle ??
if so what was the part # ??
the porsche part number I have for the CV's is 944.331.901.00 , does this part # also match the VW part # when you say they cross reference ??
what brand of CV's do you have ?? I know you said they were VW , but who actually made them , was it Lobro or some other generic brand ??

Sorry for all the questions "CT944"

Lobro is owned by GKN (who are owned by someone else). The early CV joint is the same as the VW 411. I don't think the axles are the same length though. It does depend on the year of the 944 to cross to the VW numbers.

Yeah, the CV's are from GKN and so are the boots and all the hardware.

I found a local GKN dealer, when i asked about CV's, he informed me that all he needed was either the number or the CV code and he can get it. Unfortunately/Fortunately, i just went ahead and swapped a CV from my 88 NA car into my turbo. But i am under the impression that the CVs from GKN would be much cheaper than from the dealer.

thanks for the info "GMS" & "hosrom_951"

Ok now I'm a little more confused about the quality issue . Is "GKN" an inferior cv as compared to the "LOBRO" ?????

GKN owns Lobro. The box says GKN, the contents are Lobro.

A complete axle for $66 is a rebuild. One new CV joint is more than that.

The Lobro number is E 153 12 01 99 003
