Clarks garage says there is a bleed nipple on the master cylinder. Where is this? Or does he mean that the nipple is on the slave cylinder down by the starter?
Also is it true that since the clutch system looses pressure and the fluid level in the reservoir goes down that there MUST be a leak - even if I don't see it? (Some small amount of fluid leaks out and is replaced by air causing the clutch not to work/have pressure.)

Open the bleed nipple on the clutch master cylinder and watch the flow for air, there should be lots of air in the system. Once the fluid runs solid with no bubbles, close the bleed nipple and detach hose and wrench from nipple. Clean up where spills may have occurred.

If your trying to bleed the clutch, the nipple is facing aft (I believe) on the slave cylender next to the starter. Bleed kits rock for this application! If the clutch stops working (IE the pedal goes to teh floor without pressure) theres a good possability that theres a leak.

On slave, facing rear, above starter, uses a 7mm wrench. Just bled mine for the first time, and I didn't have to remove the starter (small hands come in handy when working on these cars!).

Just make sure you disconnect the battery cables. Opening that bleed valve with a wrench could lead to a huge firework show along with you welding your wrench to the starter.

so how do you detect a leak?
I have a beed tool (hand pump) and bled it and it worked for a couple of days... then whent flat again
this all started when I had to replace the resevior hose because of a hole in it...
anyway to tell if its a leak or just needs to be bled more?

My mechanic was able to do it without taking the starter off by using an "offset" wrench - it jogs down abotu an inch out of plane to the "ring" that grabs the nut
