All the 944 cam chain tensioner pads have a 928 part number, they are sourced from the 32v V8 in the 1985 928. Good work changing it. Let that engine howl.

Umm. That'd be a yes. Hopefully the pistons and valves are all OK. Seems like you were really lucky that the tensioner didn't get torn out of the head.

Best of lunk. Hope it's not too expensive!

It was tremendously expensive.

I did post some pics of this a while back, but I think it is worth posting them again to show what can happen for those on the fence if it is worth it.
I was lucky, no other damage.

I would suggest having the chain and tensioner examined if
you have just bought a car
if your car has no record of them being changed
and as a matter of course include it into the belt change every 50k-60k as part of the service schedule.

Lastly, if in any doubt.... prevention($) is better then cure ($$$$$$)
change them!

Charity bracelet available (as soon as I can find some cheap labour to exploit) and help make it a thing of the past. All donations will go into my Cam fund. Thankyou.

I agree with that. Like I said, I'm trying to locate a source for the lower pad so that I don't have to buy a tensioner @ $340 or more, as my tensioner is fine - smoothly compressible with good rebound.
