Default Best way to remove pesky gaskets..

Yeah, its me again. I searched for this one and there were way to many topics and none of them said what i needed...

i took the gaskets of the intake, and peices of them are still left...how do you get rid of those. I don't want to sand because of fear of making a groove...i tried a putty knife..."we've tried nothing and we're out of ideas"

so, what do you guys do?

An old wood chisel works for me. I just am real careful to not gouge the sealing surface. Try loosening by wetting with carb cleaner that might make it easier to get off.

A very sharp razor blade to scrape off the big chunks, after that some WD-40 or carb cleaner and a brillo pad work well.

Or very fine sandpaper. I've used 1000 grit, when it's that fine you don't have to worry about grooves.

WD40 and a credit card or other plastic scraper. No fun, but safe and effective in a reasonable amount of time.

Yeah.. I used WD40 on my cam tower gasket in combination with a gasket scraper.. atleast 2 bottles of it. Talk about the garage stinking of chemicals. Its a slow process but it works.
