Just guessed, and talked to a fellow Porsche owner. I know the sidewalls where not flexing over as there where no marks on them. I'm guessing I could of went down more and still been ok.

Wes,
Don't worry about the car. I took my 83 944. Bone stock dead shock and more body roll than a ship at sea and ran in the top 2-3 times for cars on street tires. This car was in pretty sorry shape in my first autocross with it. What did have was many years of autocross and track experience under my belt.
Keep the car as it and just drive more and more. It is an aquired skill.
When I first started Ax in 1999 I had two other regulars in my class with my stock 951 S.
There was one guy in an 89 Turbo and another in 968. We all ran street tires and I was 2-3 seconds slower than the other two. The guy in the 968 was I figure 70+ years old and he would go back and forth with the 89 Turbo guy. I never beat either of them in 2+ years doing 8-10 events year. I did however cut the gap to 1 second.
Then I moved to my 944-spec car and beat them soundly that was of course due to the car.
Well the 89 Turbo guy stopped autocrossing and the 968 guy got a 88 924S M030 car.
He stuck some R-tires on it had fun. Well last year I started with my 83 944. We again were in the same class, but he ran R-tires and I ran streets. Well first Ax I was slower than him by 1 second again. Next time I beat him. Me on streets and his car on r-tires. Well now after a few years of running I learned enough to beat this guy with less equipment.
All it took was a few years of practice.

hey Wes glad to see you had fun at your first! It gets addicting the more you go out there. Seat time is a big issue and the more you have, the faster you will become. There are guys kicking my *** in GS class (PCASDR street/modified class) that have about minimum 2-3 years experience on me. It's amazing what some of these people can do in their cars after driving them for so long.
Anyways, hope you're gonna attend another man! Keep it up!

Andy,
I had a great time and plan on attending next sundays event as well. They say that next weeks course is bigger with longer straight aways, so maybe the turbo will do better.
Are the classes the same across the US? Wait.. your running PCA autox? I'm doing SCCA Autox, they put me in "A Street Prepared" beacuse of the chips, flyhweel and bigger tires.

You don't have to get a new cameraman/woman. Just get you a digital video recorder...that way anybody can film you, and you get motion shots, and you can just capture whichever frame you like....and just wait until you mount it inside!
Only down side(s) Cost of camera, resolution.

Tes,
I have a camcorder, but I didn't bring it because I thought the Digital Camera would be easier to use. Just hold down the button and it'll snap off 3-4pics in a row. But wow, guess I was wrong.

Wes I talked to my buddy Bill who's on here and is in the SCCA about classes. From what I hear the SCCA is a little touchy regarding modifications, especially with weight removal. You may want to be careful if you're going to continue modding the car. I dunno if you're goign to eventually be competitive but how far is ASP above a stock 951 running in the SCCA? I found I'd be put into a modified class because I have a lot of weight removed on my car. Hell I didn't know that 1-piece seats would put you in a higher category that bad...

Wes,
You will be killed in ASP.
That is a fact and unfortunate. Really even great driver will be killed in ASP in your car.
SCCA classsing is different and the 951 is simply not an ideal autocross car. However just go out and have fun. Learn what you can try to get a little quicker all the time. Realize that you need to do some radical stuff to make your car competitive in SCCA that is assuming it ever could be.
So just have fun and drive.

Andy,
Yep. "B Stock" is what the stock class is. So the mod's threw me into "A Street Prepared" , which it looks like I can do alot more and stay in ASP. However, After looking at the list of cars that are in ASP.. its scary!

I don't agree with keeping the car as it is. If the struts in the front and the shocks in the rear are completed worn, it isn't worth your time to AutoX. Frankly, it would become irritating.
Worn struts in the front will result in the front of the car rubbing the ground. Total waste of time. Ask me how I know.

However it an appear after the FIRST autocross that "the car is keeping me back" rather than realizing that autocross is a hell of alot harder than it looks.
A stock 951 suspension feels rock solid on the street, but at autocross you will feel it move 10 times more than on the street and therefore can appear completly worn when it actually still good.

Joe,
I agree with you. The car feels good on the street and in high speed chicanes. However, it does feel like *** on the autox course. I know the rear shocks are shot, the fronts arn't as bad, but are getting there. I'm still trying to figure out why my front tires where rubbing.

Hey Wes, a quick little idea for your next venture to the autocross:
-If the tires are rubbing, it could also be worn shocks in the front. After replacing your shocks all the way around, take your car to the alignment shop and ask for -1.5 degree negative camber. I'm running that with 225/50/15 tires in the front and never had a rubbing issue again on it. (of course I have to possibly do ball joints now so back to the alignment shop I go)
-Check out a nice set of Bilstein HD shocks. A lot of the 944 drivers use those as well as Koni yellows at the autocross and I must say that they're cars are a lot stiffer than mine. I also like the ride on the Bilsteins too; the shock feels like it gets stiffer the hard you push the suspension.
Hey Wes, what tires are you running on your car too????
