I completely agree w/you... And THAT, is part of the prob w/buying things that you cannot see...

a Turbo S w/1300 miles!?!?!? Are you sure you don't mean 13000? 1300 would be the lowest mileage example i've seen since owning my car...! Either way, 1300 or 13000- where the hell are you FINDING these things??? Anyway, for 1300, I could see it topping the $30K threshold, assuming everything is what I would expect of a perfect example 1300 mile car... I mean, hell, 1300 miles isn't even broken in yet... actually... 40K miles is about perfect for break-in, according to all long-term tests in R&T & C&D, etc, but, I would think you'd STILL want to be really careful w/a 1300 mile car... As for an estimate though, if it goes for anything less than $25K, then, someone either stole it, or, there was something wrong w/it, that was not disclosed.... Let me know more, please... are their pics??? Don't worry, I'm broke, so, I wont get in your way... :-)

Good move passing on the car. If the guy had mentioned it in the auction, saying something like "aside from some minor dealer paintwork on the rear fender, the car is mint..."etc. Still, any paintwork reduces the "almost new" appeal of a time capsule car, I think.

i dont see the 1300 mile S going for more than 20 +- 2. It is not a driving car, it is a showpiece, and it is not a desireable showpiece.

if someone wanted to drive it and paid 30k for it then did the 2-3k of maintenance, the first 10 miles would cost him a buck a mile. not happening.

Maybe not, but, there have been a few that have topped $20K in the last few years- the one I always compare too is one that went for $22K- the asking price was $23k- this was over a year ago... It had some slight marks on it from where the cover had rested on it for so long...! Either way, I was thinking $25K & I wouldn't be surprised if it did hit close to $30K anyway- I know I would rather pay $30K for one w/1300 miles on it, assuming it was in perfect condition, than to pay the $50k+ that I'll have in my car by the time it's in that condition, although, my car will be better than stock in many ways... Also, I've driven my car for 5yrs, 10mo & 55K miles & THAT has to be factored into the total amount... The other way to look at it is this: say you did pay $27K for it, then, put $3K into it for all the dried out belts & hoses, etc, plus tune-up... well, you'd have $30K in a car that went for close to $50k when new, &, it's basically new as-is... of course, the flip-side is, that $30K - $35K will buy you as much car now as $50K would then... Definately as more performance, comfort, reliabilty, etc... It's all up to the market & what someone is willing to pay I guess... I'd STILL like to see some pics of it... sounds like a nice one...

I offered 27.5 lets see what that does, I have pics, but without the owners express permission I would feel uncomfortable putting them up. I will ask him... about it.

I just recieved an email from the actual buyer of the 11k 944s2, he is happy, i don't know what he paid, he was looking for 2 years and this was the best he had seen. The rust issue didn't bother him, so be it, I am happy for him... He should enjoy it... buying long distance I just was not willing to take the chance... Dealer knew nothing about Porsches and the buyer just indicated he was in the right place at the right time... it happens, i lucked upon a 97 C4s a couple of months ago with 21k miles for 39grand, it was bought and sold within 4 days... So it happens. So all is well and the cab has a happy owner who is satisfied with the condition... Cool

I understand- well, if you buy it, you can send out all the pics you want... you must really want another nice example of one of these cars, but, despite all the inherent PITFA probs they have, I still dont think $27K is too much for such a good example- unless there's something not disclosed about it- glad to hear the other guy is happy... I'd love to see some pics though, if he doesn't mind- would also like to see some of several of your current cars- the 2003 targa, 968 cab, 928 S4, & 421(?)- I can PM you my addy if you don't mind? I like saving pics- intereior & exterior shots, of cars like these... Also, what is an LS 430- a Mercedes?

thanks

That cab did look beautiful, but the rust repair bit would have weirded me out. I have recently completed re-painting my '87S project, had all the parts and engine removed and there was no rust anywhere (and I looked everywhere...). This was a daily driven car with 150K. Something very unusual must have caused the rust spots on the cab. A well executed repair can be virtually perfect, but I would really want to know the whole story.

Now that Turbo S sounds exciting...

I was turned down at 27.5k for the 1300 mile S.... he wants in excess of 30k and the belts and hoses are done, I have to think 911 at that price

subtract for the work done and you and i are not that far apart. i agree with the 911 comment. for 30k you can get a lot of 911. probably the best early 70s S out there, and that will appreciate faster than any 944.

WOW! Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised by $30K, but, in excess of.... how much excess??? Also, the more I think about what you guys are saying, the more I'm inclined to think $30K is too high anyway- they went for close to $50K 16+yrs ago- THAT would translate to more like $65K today, BUT, you can STILL get more car today for $35K than you could get back then for $50K, so... Either way, a few grand over $30K & you're in a decent league of brand new cars, OR, as has been pointed out... 911 territory.... I'd still like to know more about this & see some pics after all is said & done...
