Default sell Porsche...buy house???

a dilema has come up....looking at a wonderful house to buy and considering selling my 84 944 to assist in house purchase.....ok, I am being honest by saying I don't want to sell her but she is a toy....not my DD......here are the particulars concerning this car:

1984 with 152,000 miles
1 year old black paint with just a few stone chips (color sanded and pro buffed, very shiny)
complete maintenance records
new headgasket and seals
new belts (1,500 miles ago and being retensioned this week)
brand new Rennbay covered Carrera sport seats (black German vinyl)
cheap CD/FM
white face gauges (bulbs in tach not working)
black Porsche script carpet set (red Porsche lettering)
17" cup 2 wheels (new, no scuffs w/Porsche center caps)
new Khumos (all around)
new tie rods (inner & outer)
recent alignment

if I do decide to sell her (not sure at this point) I would like to get 5 grand for her.....what do you guys think???

I love the upgrades... good luck. 5K seems very fair.

You should be able to get 4 for sure - it is a very nice looking car. It might take some time to find the right buyer for more. Good luck.

In SW PA that should get you a pretty good place...ok maybe just in Jefferson
Seems fair enough price. I would expect however more in the $3500 solid range for an early car.

Sad to be sure - gorgeous ride, but I'd do the same thing if I were faced with an opportunity like that. One will appreciate and be an asset, the other. . . well. . . might. . . if you're lucky. It's a smart financial move - maybe you'll even end up buying 'er back someday. . .

You can live in a car, but you can't drive a house. Think about it.

Yeah... it didn't work with my wife either.

I wish selling my car would make a difference in buying a house where I live, but it's not the case. Not sure that's a good thing! Good luck to you.

Consider this..... a $5K perceived value (maybe more like $3-4K if your hurried), over 30 years, seems like a small price to pay to keep her.

Maybe rounding in the monthly payment.

Although, the gesture goes a long way with the significant other!

Good luck!

In the house world, talking them down 5K is about nothing if not expected. Talk to a loan person and see what the REAL numbers look like. We were suprised to see what we could afford when we got into buying a house. Don't get me wrong, sell it if need be. You may want to work it out to keep the car and if need be, you have 3-5K as an option if forced to sell it later. Good luck, I'm broke but loving having a house.

You wanted a 951 anyway! Get the house, set settled, then put a turbo in the garage. Of course by then they will be going for $10k+

I know that 5 grand is not a big dent in a house purchase but I was just caught up in the financial shock of purchasing a $160,000 house......someone slap me quick.....I wouldn't sell her unless it was the bottom line on the downpayment.....I am sure I can squeek by without selling her....just have to eat beans and weenies for a while......I do love my toys .......

Keep the car.
Just budget a little more like not going out to eat as much.
You know you will miss the car.

"financial shock of purchasing a $160,000 house......"

160K won't buy an outhouse in CA. Good luck with your decisions. Oh and keep the car, it looks great.
