Default Car overheated...

Err.. I stepped out of the car, left it on.. I was out for maybe 5-7 minutes. I got back in, let the ebrake down.. but the ! light was still on. So I look around, and I see the temp gauge is maxed, and the light is on. I turned the car off and let the fans run for a bit, turned the car on.. light was still on. Revved it a little bit, and it went right down. It has always ran a bit hot while idleing, due to a faulty thermostat.. but it has never gotten above the 3rd mark.. there's a good chance I warped my head, huh? It drove 100% normally all the way home, though...

Maximum allowed oil temperature is 260 F, i'd bet you are alright, its the calibration of the gauge that makes it seem like these things run a lot hotter than other cars

You would be surprised how hardy these engines are!! We all bitch how crappy the design/maintenance is, but theyre DAMN good engines longevity wise.

Why don't you replace the thermostat if you know its faulty?

Hmmm....

I'm not on the list of bitchers. With over 150,000 miles on my track car with NOTHING other than normal maintenance, you will not get any complaints from me! I love them!!

I saw 250 degrees on my mechanical water temp gauge one time. Stuck thermostat. No problem. Still driving it - even harder - 3 years later.

Change the GD thermostat, eh? While you're at it, change the gauge temp sensor, fan switch, and check connections to assure the most accurate readings possible. Then study your fans. They have various modes they run in. If you do not get the double-fan-full-speed-mode in hot weather (like when the AC is on), it may not be enough. Fan relay.

Well it never has creeped above the third mark until now, so I figured there was no real good reason to replace it.. but now I will. Might have to wait till next weekend though
