Every post that I can find where someone replaced their sunroof seal with an aftermarket one, the person had a problem with it fitting properly.
Has anyone had better luck? My 944 is a 1984 and the part that is attached to the sunroof itself is coming apart on the back drivers side corner. The inner piece of white plastic tubing is sticking out. I tried gluing it back together with no luck. It isn’t leaking it just looks bad. I think the inner part that is more like a soft rubber seal is what keeps excess water out and the drains are what really keeps the water out.
Has anyone bought the seal from a Porsche dealer? How did it fit and about how much are they?

I have an '84 944 I've owned 11 years. About eight years ago I replaced the seal on the sunroof with one I ordered from Performance Products. I haven't had any problems since. It's easy to do -- it must be, if I did it!

I bought an OEM seal from my Porsche dealer many years ago and fit was fine. I have the late 944 though. Seal came too long and you have to trim to fit. No leaks, but I did have to adjust the sunroof gears clutch to avoid stripping as the seal was a tight fit before it adjusted to the gap size over the following months.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Best seal I saw was on a 951 at the 'ring. The owner got fed up with the leaks and filed the gap with balck silicone sealant. Looked good. If mine ever leaks that's what I'll do.

The seal from the dealer is around $140. Mine isn’t leaking its just a cosmetic problem. Part of it is cloth and that part has ripped and the white plastic tube under the cloth is now sticking out. I think the seal is actually 2 parts that may be connected together. The one part that sticks up between the sunroof and the body and the rubbery weather stripping type that is on the underside of the sunroof. The underside one is the one that keeps the water from getting into the cabin if the drains are too slow. Plus there is the part that is on the body of the car.
I don’t mind paying the dealer price unless the part from an aftermarket place is exactly the same part for less money. It sounds like from the replies that either one fits a bit tight to start with.
Here is a picture of the problem.
