I had a hose burst, while the pump was running, the pool dumped about 8K gallons into my back yard, ran the pump dry so I am now in need of a new pump. I am ready to just drain this sucker and tear it down.

8k gallons....thats like...alot of fish tanks.
but that does suck. dont tear it down! you sound like my dad. if somethign doesnt work he wanted to break in half over his knee. :X

Yep, that is correct. If you remove the whole rack and tie rods as one unit without messing with the tie rod ends, and you should be able to transfer it straignt into your car without needing to make any major adjustments until you are all done and it goes in for the final alignment.

BTW, I wrote that lengthy tutorial in help section regarding the parts you need. Doesn't anyone ever read that?
