been using a "cheapo" for about 10-12 engine pulls. Anything from 944 to Ford Truck (460) to Chevy II to Jeep CJ to ... Just keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle at all times and you should be safe.

Yep, I'm in agreement with Skip. I've been using a "cheapo" from Harbor Freight myself for over a year now. I've pulled/installed a couple of 44 engines, use it to service my mower deck on my lawn tractor, and misc. other things.
I finally bought one after spending over at least $100.00 + on rentals for the darn hoist locally. If the truth was really known, I'd bet you'd find that most of these hoists are "cheapos" coming from the same place with different names on them. A trully "good", american made one, is JUST not worth the expense to me. Reccomend you get a fold up type (much easier to store when not using), and just treat it with a little care, don't overtorque the needle seat valve on it constantly, and it should work just fine for ya. 2 ton, foldable, is what I have, also.

Whelp, I went out to Pep Boys and bought a cheapo one. Haven't put it together yet but hopefully it'll be as reliable as the ones you guys have.
I was, however, reminded of how much I hate that place. I couldn't foind the engine hoists, so I asked a guy there who was putting stuff on the shelves. He brought me over to some sort of foldable garage shelves and asked if they were what I was looking for. "No, I'm looking for an e-n-g-i-n-e h-o-i-s-t," I said it really slow and enunciated carefully. "Oh," he said, and brought me over to an isle full of floor jacks and jackstands, etc. It wasn't there, so he tells me that they don't have any hoists. Well I wandered around the store for a while until I fond one, and dragged the damn thing back to the car myself.
