Hi, I'm the new guy around here. My name is Chance, I live in Columbus, Georgia. I enjoy auto-x, road racing, and drag racing. I am also a member of NASA,if any of you know about that. I am selling my daily driver 1997 Camaro SS and looking to get a 951. I came here to learn more about them and their problems. Look forward to knowing you all better!

Chance,

You *might* have to cut the mullet when you buy the 951!

Just kidding. Welcome to Rennlist. . . . .where you will find all the answers!

Welcome welcome. When you hop in a 951 as opposed to the camaro, you may just need to change your pants!

welcome to the forums. Just to let you know you will have to perform more maintence to ur 951 compared to a camaro. My brother drives a SS and they are nice rides but i would take my 951 over it

Welcome from another newbie - Chris_924S has put together a nice list of sites for information. I don't know if you have your heart set on a 951, but if you are open to suggestions, you may want to check out a "late-model" S2 - over 200hp and less complicated to maintain, but alas, no turbo boost! Good luck, you're in the right place!

Chance - welcome.

The 951 is an excellent car for most of the motorsport activities you enjoy, except for one: drag racing. In independant suspension and the CV joints on these cars don't hold up too well to those harsh launches. Just something to keep in mind.

And while the 951 is very capable of dancing around the cones, you may be disappointed at the power delivery - once that turbo spools up, you may already be in the braking zone for the next set of turns. If autox is your thing, consider a 944 n/a, 944S2, or a 968 - they tend to do better in this venue.

But for the track, the 951 is terrific! (Do you do HPDE's with NASA? PCA has a similar program, simply called Driver's Education, or DE.) NASA has the 944-spec series, and PCA has their own club racing program. The 944's seem to do well in PCA club racing. The 944 Turbo has decent power, and is well balanced. With a little tweaking of the suspension, and some slight engine mods, it can really sing out there.

Welcome!
-Z.
