I think I read somewhere that you shouldn't go with OEM when replacing them...anyone?

OEM is fine, but Aftermarket is NOT.

OEM=Original Manufacturer

Aftermarket= Crap

Good Luck!

Guess I had it backwards. Vertex says it has the OEM mounts for $50...which sounds REALLY cheap.

The vertex ones are indeed OEM, but technically, they are not OE (both are made by the same company, but the $50 ones aren't of as high quality). The ones that you want should run about $100 each. You may be able to find them for a little less, but they won't be anywhere near the $50 mark. There are some pictures in the archives that show the differences between the OE and the $50 ones. For one, the $50 ones have a cirle cut out near the bottom edge whereas the $100 have more of an elongated cut out.

OEM=Original Manufacturer- Wrong, OEM is original equipment manufacturer and usually is aftermarket and poorer quality

OE= Original Equipment-These would be the ones you want and you will not find them usually for less than $100/ea. Same as sold by Porsche dealers and reputable aftermarket sellers like Paragon. There should be a P in a triangle on the quailty OE version.

Sometimes, yes. There's a thread in which I addressed this some months ago and gave specific examples. Being OEM simply means it comes from the same company that made the original under contract with Porsche. While some manufacturers offer less than originally suitable parts in the aftermarket, many do also update the parts based on current technology and lessons-learned. Timing belts are one example. Bosch fuel injectors are another. Being simply an OEM part does not necessarily make it inferior to the original, just as not even being made by the OEM does not necessarily make it inferior to the original. That's where you have to trust your vendor and listen to opinions on, well, Rennlist

We do know that the only motor mounts you want for the long haul are the original type that typically run over $100/each.

I thought OEM was "Original Equipment from Manufacturer" Either way, I know I want the Porsche mounts not the aftermarket.

Call Paragon, I think they are like 108 a piece or so and trust me, that is what you want, it is just not worth saving. I can do them in less than an hour with the factory mounts, the last set of aftermarket mounts took 4+ hours because they were slightly misaligned.

The service at Paragon is unparalleled.

OE is Original Equipment - this *usually* means that the part is the same spec and is manufactured by the same people who made it originally - for better or worse.

OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer - this *usually* means that the part has been revised but it is still manufactured by the same people who made the OE part - for better or worse.

Aftermarket is just that - this *usually* means not the product nor its manufacturer are that which were originally used - for better or worse.

Clear as mud?

I am not sure if they are still selling the old style mounts but when buying mounts make sure you get the 951 style even if u have an N/A they are suppossedly updated and make the car runsmoother.

I bought the units from Porsche (remember when PCA gave us all $100 gift certificates for Porsche parts?). The first set lasted 130k+ miles on each of 2 cars I've owned, so why screw with that?

Right on - "they" are not selling the old style mounts anymore, so that shouldn't be a problem. On the left of the diagram below is the old style mount, just to be clear:

As you'll likely be dealing with a honest vendor, look to pay over $100/each for the proper mounts. Or, nearly half that for aftermarket versions and take yer chances - arr!
