I know Serge probably better than anyone here and it's the right call. He needs to concentrate on school, work, and getting a car he can rely upon to make it day-in/day-out with the least hassle. Like most students the vision has to be the next 3-4 years, not will my car get me to school today? He has gone out of his way to make a $1000 car run to the best of it's abilities. All of us with 944's know what that means as far as time devoted to maintenance and keeping up the status quo. I'm sure he will be back with a very nice P-car someday but this just isn't his year for it. He's a very smart kid that can make silk from a sow's ear but the effort to do it is not in his cards at the moment. I wish him well and look forward to him graduating in the future and showing me up with a new Porsche ride; that's when I'll start to hate him.

Yeah I'm in the same spot. Last summer I traded my 944 for an E36 325is. After spending $1100 on unexpected repairs in the last month, I need to spend another 2k to make it great, or sell it for a big loss and get back in a 944. I think I've wussed out of 944 ownership and I'm going to stick with the e36, I've driven 23000 miles since last august and I park in a college parking lot and my apartment is in the social epicenter of campus (lots of drunk people, good times but vandals too) so good luck with the E30.

Thanks for the never ending support guys. Seems like at times I look at the negative aspects of rennlist too much and forget how much you guys have helped me in the past!

Serge,

Good luck, with the e30. You will be so mechanically versed in Automotive knowledge, while owning this very tweakable, quality ride. I owned three already; a 1988 325(superETA); 1989 325i(later turbo'd with 735iEuro KKK mill- but with reliability issues). Then my beloved 1990 M3, with an M88/6 long six shoehorned to it(410bhp). My ex-wife won it, though. Let me know if you want to send a BMW up Pikes Peak. We have the technology- on paper, but not the finances quite yet. To get anywhere near Rod Millen's time- think AWD(not the iX!) a full Carbon shell, and at best, the 4.0V8. Forced induction or turbos are sensitive to the immense amount of roost generated, and may lead to problems. A good-sized 3.0L or 4.0-powered Open-Class prototype can put another German Marque atop Unser Mountain.

Zach
