Default axle nut, fixed it!!

i want to thank the rennlist again,i got advice from "tifosiman" in ohio,
to check axle nut on my 951 first, before tearing cvs and bearings apart again.
i retightened both sides to over approx.360 ft.lbs.(guess)and took 951 out
not a single noise, all those frightening, exspensive noises gone,by tightening two
big *** 32mm nuts.
saved my a great deal of time, not having to pull apart axles and bearings again.
thanks again,
rolf morrow

Rolf,
What type/kind/location noises where you hearing? I'm hoping I have the same thing as you and an equally easy solution.

Thanks

rob,
i heard mainly clacking/knocking noises when going uphill, turns,
and especially at takeoff from a complete stop.
i recently replaced all cv's,cv bolts,boots,brake rotors,brake pads,etc.
so i was hoping that after all that work it had not failed on me or i forgot something.it appears that i did not torque the left rear tight enough.
i checked both rear wheels for any play or wobble and sure enough the left rear
wheel had a fair amount of play.
i was able to remove 32mm axle bolt using my impact gun with little problem.
i re-tightened both left and right side axle bolts using a 24" breaker bar with
a 3 foot pipe over the end and basically stood on it.
the right side barely moved, left side moved at least 1/2 turn.checked torque.
test drove car over 25 miles, at speeds up to 75mph,no more noise at all.
i hope that your problem is that easy to fix, usually mine are not, concerning these vehicles.i was quite amazed that i did not have to spend hours finding
and fixing this problem this time.i am sure there will be something else to fix
in the future.it never seems to stop.
good luck,
rolf

Good job Rolf...I wish you had been ready last Saturady when we took a great run up your way. Hows that N/A coming along?

the 83 is still stored, but i will be driving it or towing it down to granite bay,
brother in law is going to check i out, actual mechanic,i am thinking it might be reference sensor, thats about the only thing i haven't checked out.
almost there with 951,no paint yet,but so far runs nice.
learning alot from rennlist ,shop manuals, and clarks garage.
maybe end of summer run somewhere.
