Default Audi TT engine in a 924 turbo ???

Hello there,

I am sure the issue of engine transplants has been dealt with many times in the past. I have an immaculate, but engineless 924 turbo, and I am VERY seriously consider an engine transplant. My first idea was the installation of a 951S powerplant. There is one damaged 951 S available close to me which I seriously consider as a donor car.
I am also considering an Audi TT engine (the 1.8 with 225bhp). Was wondering if someone knows the engine mounts of the Audi and how easy it would be to match it to the 931 or 944 transaxle.
How about an Audi V6 biturbo engine (from S4 or Allroad)

I am looking to build a nice Q car !!!

An S2 or 968 engine would be interesting. Keeping it a Porsche.

Yea, but the stock 924 engine is an Audi engine, so if he slapped a TT engine in there, it wouldn't be any different than a regular 924

The 1.8t is a very good, almost bullitt proof motor. Damn good idea for a transplant, makes more sense than a Chevy V8.

The 924 engine is not an Audi item. As far as I know certain parts of the engine (block?) were used in a VW LT Van.
I guess it all depends on what you want to do with the car. I would keep it Porsche, but I'm sure you could get better performance at a lower price using something else.
Would a LT1 fit?

I have an '01 GTI 1.8T and I am thinking it won't work. How would you change the diff and the tranny to get it in there?

imho not worth the $$$ or the trouble. you're gonna have all kind of issues with the engine/trans hookup and engine mounting. the turbo plumbing may also not fit.

Aren’t the TTs rear wheel drive? It’s the same engine as the Golg/Jetta/ Passat 1.8 Turbo but longitudinally mounted.

That's a lot of $ to put a stock engine tranny and diff in that car. It only turns 150hp on the 01's and 170hp on the 02's. Sure you could push it to 500hp but try fitting it under the hood!

IMO

Not worth it. Not trying to pop any bubbles. If you had two wrecked cars what can you do with them? Sure..

The TT is on the Golf/Beetle platform, so it uses the transverse 1.8T. You could use an A4/Passat 1.8t instead, I think most of those are high CR/ Low boost versions though (150-170HP with a K03 turbo.) I have heard of this swap being done to an Audi Coupe. Kinda fun but I would have done a 5 cyl turbo instead myself. 250HP is attainable on the high compression 1.8T with a K04 turbo.

A V8 will fit in there with a little work, although not as easily as in a later 924S or even 83-89 944.

if i recall correctly, the motor in the 924 is the same chrysler motor that was in the dasher and some american motors products. very fine pedigree indeed.

yes it is important to keep the provenance of a worthless vehicle. come on guys, it is just an old car.

Oh boy, now you've done it. Ever seen those Capital One commercials where the horde of Huns come running up and over the grassy knoll after someone? Picture that, only they are 924/944 owners in disguise. And probably dirtier. And grumpier.
