Problem with replacing the starter.
Non porsche but you guys are a huge help with my other cars so why not? It is a 98 Dodge neon. I replaced the starter. (not as easy as the 944 I will add) and now that it is back together when I attempt to start the car it just gives one click. (almost a pop) It does it each time I turn the key. The car has an aftermarket security system and I am not sure if that is what is screwing with it. Can I just hook a jumper cable up from the positive side of the battery to the red post on the starter? will this kill me? I will leave the car in park with the key in pos. 2.

I would get the rear (or front in your case) wheels off the ground even though you have an auto and will leave it in park. A friend was killed doing this so error on the safe side. You want the driven wheels off the ground.
The starter is just an electric motor. It is grounded (negative) through the bellhousing and you have the main positive off the battery. You can jumper that if you think the starter cable is bad. Then just hit the solenoid trigger post with positive current and it should start cranking.
