Default 944 and 968 M030 rear shocks

Do the rear shocks have the same valving?

I only ask I called my local OPC and was going to buy some 944 M030 rear struts to bolt on in place of the badly fitting Leda, however I ended up buying the 968 rear shocks with springs.

Obviously If I use the 968 shock with the spring, it will lift the back of the car up to much and probably be too siff for the fronts currently in place.

Thanks in advance.

Depending on the stiffness of your helper spring you may not have as many issues as you think. If the helper is 80# (softest most common OE 968 rear helper spring spec) you proabably won't have to reindex the torsion bars. Valving on OE 968 M030 rear shock is softer than other Koni rear coil over sets now sourced from Holland, but I don't know how it compares to the non-coil over rear Koni yellow sports shock.

Well, either way, the helper spring will raise the rideheight. Not so much that you can't cancel it out with the eccentric - if you havent lowered it all the way using it that is.

944 m030 shocks were merely konis - you dont want old konis.

Where abouts do you go buy 968 rear M030 shocks? Everywhere I look there seems to be an offering of 500 dollars for them That's enough to put Konis on all 4 corners of my car!

In my experience 968 M030 rear shocks, without springs fitted, set on full hard, feel harder than 944 M030 rear shocks set on full hard.
Observed on two different cars, though, and I have no figures.

I am already using Leda with a spring, so it may work with the spring, however I feel it will make the rear of the car too stiff compared to the front. My car only gets driven on the Nurburgring, so it's pretty important I get this right, otherwise I just wont have much fun.

I mean, I could just my Leda rears back on (they broke and I had to get one rear unit repaired) but they rattle, and I am fed up with rattle....hence my move to something I know fits and works!

Spring part number is 951-333-531-31-504

My Leda set up was 225lbs front and 100 rear helper. Although from experience these are not vavled any where near as stiff as the M030.

Seems like you want to overdampen your suspension. You really dont want incredibly stiff shocks for the spring rates you are running.

You can always try the koni rear coilovers that paragon sells - those are adjustable. Or you can simply buy adjustable Ledas.

I have adjustable Ledas, I don't like them, I want rid of them as soon as possible........with this method at least I can get rid of the badly fitting part sooner!

Leda - coming to an ebay near you soon

If you're leda's have a 100lb helper spring in them....

why would a 968 shock with a 80lb helper spring raise the rear end at all?

If anything it might sit a smidgen lower.

Your Leda's rattled because you really need to re-index the rear t-bars to pre-load them. You may find the same issue with the 968 M030 rears as well.

It sounds kinda like you are planning on removing the 968 helper springs and just using the dampers. Is that your intention?

Yes - as the 968 M030 have praticularly stiff valving.

If it's not worth it, I'll put the Leda back on........I just dont want to.

Do you have the stock torsion bars right now? I think if you are only going to use the car on the track, you should go with much, much stiffer springs. If I were you, I'd go with coilovers all around (maybe 600 lbs/in up front and 700 lbs/in in the rear).

Those spring rates might get you killed on a bumpy track like the 'ring.

Davy, if you have time, check out the book "Chassis Engineering" by Herb Adams. It will allow you to understand more about suspension tuning.

Frankly, I have no clue what your intended outcome is.
