I drove it 30 miles on a hot day and the pressure started at 5 Bar and dropped to 3 Barat ~60 MPH. It dropped to 1+ at idle (used to be 1.5 minimum). I'm using Mobil 1 15W50. Temperature gauge was middle-high.

Drove the car to the doctor yesterday (2 miles away). Never made it. Pressure was reading about 4 Bar when I heard a series of 4 "taps", just before the engine seized!

The tow truck left it in my driveway. Starter won't budge engine. Neither will 1/2" breaker on the crank bolt. Engine is basically trashed.

Hope nobody else experiences this ...

That happened with my 88 NA, but the OPRV was stuck open

VERY sound advice. I would reccomend verifing that the oil pressure is correct via a mechanical guage before driving.

Here is something, sometimes while driving my oil pressure gauge just drops........beyond the zero reading (as if someone switch off the car). I tap it with my finger, and it pops back up.........did you try that? i know i have an electrical problem, and i pinpointed it..........
What causes that (where in the electrical system) ? I'm having that problem, I pulled the dash and cleaned the connections and it has helped a little, but it occassionally needs a tap.

Hey Mike, did you ever find out the cause of your problem? I'm having a similar issue with mine, however the "!" light flickers when I have the a/c turned on, (as well as my oil pressure light flickering), but turns off when I turn off the a/c.

I recently had my belts re-tensioned, and a new battery installed.

Im still following this thread. Which grounds do you guys recommend cleaning? Is the light worked off the gauge? Im asking this because... if the light isnt worked off the gauge, then it shouldnt light up if their is good oil pressure. (Even if the gauge is reading incorrectly) But... if the light is worked off the gauge, and their was a dirty ground, then I could see both triggering and it only being an electrical problem.

One more question.. is their any chance that the OPRV is binding if Mikes getting good oil pressure on startup? I would think that since he has good oil pressure on start up, that it would rule out the OPRV, but im not sure on this.

The oil pressure idiot light and oil pressure sender are on different circuits. If the low oil pressure warning light comes on, it really does mean you have no oil pressure.
