Default Hatchback problem

I posted a few days ago about a problem with the latches in the back. The hatch would shut, but I could pull it open by pulling up on the spoiler. I took the latches off, cleaned them out, and WD40'd them. Well it's still doing it. I removed one of the pins from the hatch and manually pushed it through the latch to see what it would do. It went through fine and I could not remove it. When I reattached it, and closed the hatch, I could pull it open again by hand. I'm at a lose what to do. Other than replace both latches. Any Ideas?

Check to see that the latches arent loose from underneath. I suspect you will have to realign the hatch pins. HTH.

when you took the pins out did you adjust the jam nut at all so the pin would be longer? if you can push it in by hand and not pull it out, but when its in your hatch you can pull it out, i would think it could be a simple adjustment.

I did adjust them. Or at least tried to. Should I make them longer?

Definately make them longer. Adjust them longer, make sure they catch, then see if there is any play in the hatch/spoiler area. If you pull up and push down, and you hear a rattle, make the pins a little shorter. Trick is to get to a point where the hatch pins are catching in the receivers, but there isn't too much loose play overall.

Good luck!

was this always like this or did it just occur? did you just replace your hatch seal?

yes- as long as the locks are working flawlessly. Measure your start point and start lowering 1 pin at a time.

Bring them lower a very small bit at a time and test. Your probably a touch too high on the pins- it shouldnt take much.

Chris 924 I just bought it a couple of weeks ago. I noticed that when I shut the door the hatch would pop open. It did this several times. That's what started me tinkering with them.

Default misaligned latch pins?

I had this same problem with my latch on my rear hatch.

The problem was caused by the fact that my rear glass had separated from the frame up near the top. As a result, the latch pins were out of alignment and wouldn't properly center in the latch holes. No amount of adjustment or cleaning fixed this; only realigning the hatch glass with the frame helped.

Your mileage my vary.

Rick
