I wouldn't use a plastic scraper. When I removed a decal from my bike I got impatient with the heating process and used a credit card to help remove the residue. It scratched the paint on the tank. I would use heat (hairdrier not heat gun) to soften the gunk and then just rubb it off.

goo gone shouldnt hurt the paint, but a 3M Adhesive remover might be a little better, and i know that doesnt hurt paint.
