Who said Guards Red is dead?

Guards Red is where it's at...
I spent a couple hours last Saturday cleaning and primping the S, and as we drove around later that afternoon, it occurred to me just how *bland* car colors have become. Anything bright seems to jump out at you nowadays... everything else is in muted metallics. Sure, Kalahari Beige Metallic is a lovely color, but it just doesn't have the presence of an unashamedly bright red 944. And like Z-Man, I originally wasn't interested in Guards Red but it has steadily grown on me over the three years I've owned it.

My neighbor just had his 87 Carrera/Targa repainted- Spent BIG bucks! Wanted the original color : Indischrot-Guards Red- looks killer. Incidently, my 87-944 is guards too. It's a SILLY color!

where does "guards" come from
Okay...I've heard "guards" red now for about 20 years when I first noticed the one on Pretty in Pink (kinda gives my age away). I've never wondered why it's "guards" though. Anyone care to elaborate?
Thanks,
Rick

I can't wait to get my car back to its original color... Guards Red... the PO had it painted black and it was a very ****ty job. They didn't sand down the red or anything, so know everywhere it chips there are big bright red spots. Anyone have any idea how much a Guards paint job will cost if i do all the prep work myself??
