Trivia: name this part!

josephsc: I think I know the answer to the second question
josephsc said, "I also know of another part (on 944S2/968 cabs) that is a GM-part."
Would that be the center high mounted brake light bulbs for the 944s2 and 968 cabriolets?

bulbs/parts from GM finding their way to Porsches
They're also the same ones used in the Camaro and Firebird coupes' center, high-mounted brake light, and I suspect, several other GM products of that era. The way you can tell is by the shape of the unit itself. Those early Camaros, Firebirds, Corvettes, and even Cavaliers had an extra piece tacked on that housed the bulbs and red lens. The early ones weren't even painted body color; they were all black. On the Camaro/Vette/Firebird coupes they were attached to the top of the rear hatch, directly affixed to the glass - maybe attaced to the roof on the Vette, but just ahead of the rear hatch.
Funny, but the one tacked onto the trunk lid of the 944 and 968 cabs looks identical to that early GM part (if memory serves) but is painted body color. That, and the tacked on rear fender caps are the only two things I don't like about the P-car cabrio body styles - although if offered the chance I'd take one in a heartbeat.
