Default Stymied - HELP! UPDATE - Thanx Brandon!

I went to JCWhitney to get a clutch pilot tool and they're out! Farm & Fleet and AutoZone looked at me like I was nuts and didn't even know what I was talking about. A pilot tool is all I need to get this %#@&ing engine in and now I'm stuck. ANy ideas? I have a grenaded N/A tranny; how hard would it be to take the shaft out of it? Please help out, I want that engine in before dark!!!!!

Michelle,

I used a cut-off broom stick handle. You just need to find something that's the right diameter.

The broom handle or the right sized wooden dowel will get you close enough. Another thing that helps if you do end up being a bit off and the pilot bearing won't line up with the tip, have someone press the clutch in as you wiggle the shaft until it seats, it works 95% of the time.

If you go to autozone with your old clutch disk and your old pilot bearing, you can match up their pilot shafts with your stuff. I think that I ended up with a mazda pilot shaft tool to work on a 944 once.

For future reference, Lisle makes a "universal" tool. I forgot to order and alignment tool for a BMW 3 series clutch I replaced a couple of weeks ago. I remembered I had one of these, dug it up from deep storage. I worked great.

Good to see you got it to work. When I ordered my clutch kit we got the allignment tool...it said "ford" on the side.
