Lightbulb Carrera GT replica motor Ideas

So as my other toic suggests, I am trying to do a CGT(937) replica this summer and am fishing for some good ideas for a motor. I would like to stick Porsche and because my "donor" is a '88 924 S any 944/951/968 motor should fit just fine. .idea and suggestions will be very helpful as well as cheap sources. In fact I think that would be the most helpful. I have seen the 944 S3 page which details pretty good the swap to a 3.0L 16V motor.

BUT GUYS I'M CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

where can I find any of the following

3.0L turbos
16v turbos
3.0L + 16v turbos

now we're thinking of a carrera GT worthy motor

but as my end product I would really like a turbo high end that still competes with the 3.0L 16v in autox.

but don't we all
thanks for the help

hehe. take a 951 engine
put a 944 S head on it
and modify the intake and exhaust to fit

I would think there wouldn't be a problem doing that swap.....

You mentioned in the other thread you just finished high school... Did you just win the lotto too? A 3 liter 16 valve turbo engine is going to set you back A LOT of coin.

Either make a S2 motor turbo, make 968 motor turbo, or a 3.0 Ltr. block and a 951 head with bigger valves and stuff fitted. Like a 968 Turbo RS motor. Will make an interesting car. Even just an S2 motor would make a 13 sec. beast at the drag strip.

heh. I really dont see why not. you make a custom exhaust. and modify the stock 951 intake manifold to fit on the S head. and the 951 computer and KLR should keep all the knock issues (if there ARE any) under control. get a wideband and an apexi fuel controller and tune away....

Or you could just buy a 968 in the end with all the money you spend instead of having a 924 that you'd be lucky to get 5k for. I know thats not what you want to hear but you probably in the end won't want to keep this car for ever and its not really worth putting the money into it if you don't.

'Lister Bob Ward has a great site dedicated to his CGT repro...seems to be down right now though. He went w/ a GNX turbo V6 which can be built well for about half/if not a third the price of a 3L turbo. I know you say you want to stick to a Porsche motor but at least keep an open mind to alternatives.

well the reason I wanted to stay porsche is to keep the motor swap simple. haha simple swap yeah right. Otherwise I'm pretty open on ideas. I'm gonna be working hardcore to bankroll this project and IMO I like a CGT alot more than a 968. plus I love my car the only way you're getting me out of it is by cutting my fingers off the steering wheel.

I have lofty dreams of high hp. but the power on tap that the 3.0 968 haslooks pretty good too. I'm just trying to find a nice spot in the middle... or above both.

there is a 2.8L 951 motor listed in the classifieds... would there be an advantage putting a 944 S head/intake on that.

any one know what lifters the 944 S head uses cause I like the sound of lindsey racings solid lifter setup.

you wont be able to use the S intake manifold. it has a pretty freaky design where it swoops right down to where the turbo is mounted. best thing to do is get a custom manifold (or make one)

http://www.sdsefi.com/techinta.htm

or modify the 951 manifold with shorter runners and the S flanges. (if they arent the same)
that engine would be a beast!

Ashton how do you go abouts throwing a 16v head on a 951 8v motor to start? I thought the stud patterns are different considering it's a 16v head. You also need to consider that the pistons will need to be changed.

Honestly a 951 motor in a 924S with fiberglass bodywork SHOULD BE pretty quick, faster than a 951 even considering the weight differences.

BTW, anyone know if the conversion would involve swapping in a new wiring harness since the instruments are different? or perhaps a custom harness?

what are you talking about stiggy?!

if he buys a 951 engine...and puts an S head on there. what pistons is he going to change? the stock 951 pistons? lol. the studs are the same. they have the exact same bottom end. exact.

DO IT!!!! i want to see what kind of power at stock boost levels that sucker would put down!
