Default Steering Wheel Gap

After removing the steering wheel on my '84 944 and the wiper/signal assembly to repair the odometer, all has been put back together but theres now a gap between the steering wheel and the metal plate on the wiper/signal stalk assembly. Maybe it was there before, but its a good 1/4in+ gap that I never noticed until now. It seems like the wheel is on as far as it'll go too, it wont move further back past the teeth on the column. Should the wheel be flush with the rest of the steering wheel column, or is this gap normal? Pictures anyone? Thanks!

I checked mine and it has aout a 1/4" gap at the back of the wheel base.....if it is bottomed out on the shaft then it should be "seated"....I just had mine off last week and you must be careful when putting in the turn signsl switch and wiper switch and make sure they are seated correctly...watch out for the dimmer swith hook and make sure it is in position to operated the dimmer.....
