Default custom engine prices

Just looking at these engines for the heck of it to see what a ls1 swap would put out and how much it would cost.

There is a $20k jump from 450hp to 560hp. Is this in the parts or where?

http://www.dougrippie.com/drm/engine_conversion.htm

I assume it is similar for Porsche engines since Powerhaus charges $25k for their 3L Turbo engine.

At the end of the day spending money ends up being buying someone elses time. That 110hp cost man hours.

GM is chevy, oldsmobile, pontiac, cadillac, hummer, buick, saturn. They also own saab, vauxhall, opel in the european market.

Just pick up a used Motor/ECU/Harness/Etc... out of a wrecked low mileage Z06 for $5-10k. That will give you a start at 400hp. There's a world of quality speed parts out there for them incase you want to make the 560hp mark....but for quality expect to pay, no matter who the OEM is.

You better budget in brakes too!

Somehow, I doubt that Saabs and Buicks share the same parts bin. Unless Buicks have gone metric, or Saabs suddenly SAE.

Currently they share very little except technology, and an SUV. The new SAAB sport utility is based on a Trailblazer with refinements.

GM owns a bunch of Subaru and the new SAABs share parts with them.

If you want to be depressed check out crate engine prices.

But don't get too excited. Adapting the tranny, ECU, dash gauges, power steering, AC and so on can easily be more than the initial savings on the engine itself.

A friend of mine put an LT1 into a 928. Thought it would be cheaper and better. Last time I saw him, and drove it, it was more expensive and wasn't behaving like a good system. It was going back to the shop to have a custom torque convertor put in to match the Chevy engine's low-end torque.

Bottom line is that it looks like more cheaper going in. Dropping a 968 engine into an older 944 would be a better approach to power.

I'd rather drop a 928 engine in a 944 even if it means slicing up the body frame a bit...
